Dreaded Lichen Planus and Finding Relief: A Customer Testimonial
Written By: STEPH NIGHTINGALE X CO-AUTHOR LYNDA, A CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL
Ever heard someone at the dentist characterize something inside your mouth as “white and lacy." We understand sometimes things flow in one ear and right out the other. No, we're not talking about Hailey Bieber's baby bump reveal dress. But if you’re hearing about this condition, you’re probably listening because it’s likely been impacting your quality of life and favourite foods.
What are we actually referring to you ask? LP! Aka, Lichen Planus.
Living with oral lichen planus (OLP), an autoimmune condition affecting the mucous membranes inside the mouth, can be both a challenging and painful experience. However, finding effective, holistic solutions to manage the symptoms can make a world of difference. About a month ago an inspiring testimonial from one of our first customers landed in our mailbox. A customer who discovered how Stimmie significantly improved her LP condition and quality of life. (Hello spicy foods––how we’ve missed you)!
Oral lichen planus is characterized by a lacy white pattern on the insides of the cheeks, tongue, and gums. It's often accompanied by pain, soreness, and inflammation, particularly when indulging in spicy foods or alcohol. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this autoimmune disease, making symptom management crucial for those affected.
Our customer Lynda first learned about her condition 30 years ago when a perceptive dentist noticed the telltale lacy white pattern during a routine check-up. At the time, she wasn't experiencing any pain, so she didn’t think much of it. However, about seven years ago, the condition worsened, causing raw, sore, and painful gums, especially when enjoying her favourite spicy foods.
“It’s a cyclical pattern of soreness. When LP flares up, it makes the gums sore and sometimes too sore to practice effective plaque removal at home with proper brushing at the gum-line. But when there’s an increase of plaque build-up on the gums, it can cause the LP to worsen. It can be a lose-lose situation and hard to control.” - Jessika Patrick, Registered Dental Hygienist.
Concerned about her symptoms, Lynda visited an allergist to rule out dental implant allergies, which came back negative. She then consulted with a dentist who referred her to an oral surgeon. After a biopsy, she was officially diagnosed with oral lichen planus. Despite trying various steroid-based rinses and topical ointments, she found little relief from the pain and irritation.
Discovering Stimmie
Amidst her struggle, she purchased a new product Stimmie and incorporated it into her nightly oral care ritual, which already included flossing, brushing, and using a waterpik. She applied Stimmie along the gumline and between her teeth. Within 10 days of regular use, she noticed a significant improvement in her condition. Her gums were less raw, tender, and painful. “My hygienist observed that this product was likely removing additional plaque I wasn’t reaching with my current products, and the decrease in plaque build-up was clearly making my tissues happy.” - Lynda.
Validation from a Professional
During her next appointment with the oral surgeon, the doctor remarked on the noticeable improvement in her oral lichen planus and validated her new routine. Doctor's orders called for encouraging Lynda to continue to “keep up with this new routine, it’s working!”
Not only does this mean our customer can look forward to enjoying spicy foods again, especially during her upcoming trip to South Korea, but she's able to streamline better plaque removal while traveling. She keeps a Stimmie in her pocket and her purse for convenience.
Oral Lichen Planus can be challenging, but holistic management can greatly improve quality of life. This one example shows how Stimmie made a significant difference for one this one lucky individual. It was her solution to better and more effective plaque removal and gum stimulation. (Ahh....relief)!
